For a list of other Loyalist events taking place in the Maritimes, please visit Diana Lynn Tibert's web page http://www.thefamilyattic.info/RCalendar.html. Diana writes genealogy columns for a number of newspapers in the Maritimes and has generously promoted the Remsheg Loyalist Reunion. Her site, The Family Attic http://www.angelfire.com/folk/guysboroughvets/Roots.html is well worth a visit.

Here's a site with loads of information on genealogy: http://www.kerchner.com/table.htm. I was intrigued by the link to naming children http://www.kerchner.com/germname.htm. As the author notes, while it began as a Roman Catholic practice, Protestants took it on as well. Scroll down the page to see the naming practice.
.

While not a genealogy site per se, this one"www.obitcentral.com" would come in useful for calculating date of birth when years, months, and days are given in an obituary (assuming the person who calculated the years, months, and days did so correctly!)

Roots to the Past
Diana Lynn Tibert of Roots to the Past (website: http://thefamilyattic.info/Roots.html) whose column appears in the Halifax Daily News (Sunday), The Citizen (Saturday), Lunenburg Progress Enterprise (Wednesday), Bridgewater Bulletin (Wednesday) and Guysborough Journal (mid-month) accepts queries which are placed alongside the column in the newspaper and on the Roots to the Past website (for one year). She welcomes queries from all over the province, but specifically for Halifax County, Lunenburg County, Guysborough County and Cumberland County.

When submitting queries:
  • First, read some of the queries posted on the website to learn more about the format.
  • Ask one specific question, for example, 'Who were Jane Baker's parents?' or 'Looking for information on the Mailman family of Bridgewater.'
  • Add information that will help identify the person, such as, date and place of birth, and names of parents, spouses, and siblings. Use the date format, May 23, 1897, to leave no question about the day and month.
  • Keep queries up to 35 words (not including contact information). Include your mailing address and E-mail address.
  • Send Queries with the Subject Line "Researcher's File" to Diana Lynn Tibert: tibert@ns.sympatico.ca

Genealogy Resources on the Internet

Our thanks to Ron Stonehouse for giving us permission to link to his web site
http://www.stonehouse.ca/prologue.htmlwhich points to the most current version of his web pages.
Ron asks that if you have any other information you may wish to contribute on either ancestors or descendants (living or dead) to feel free to forward the information to him at genealogy@stonehouse.ca.
"The goal of our web site is to provide as accurate information as possible and it is through family contributors that we are able to do this. I can assure you that no data or photos that I have or will have on living individuals other than what is currently shown on our web site will ever be released without the written permission of the individual involved if they can be contacted after reasonable effort. For example please check my own record for the types of information we show. I can not however guarantee that information on living people gathered elsewhere from the Internet will not end up in the hands of other researchers as the information can still be downloaded from the internet. I'm updating the site all the time and new information will be added as time permits since we (my wife and myself) do this only part time. Anyone who contributes information will be quoted as the source. If you have it in electronic genealogy program at the present time it may be possible for me to import it to save on manual labor. Please let me know and maybe we can work something out.
Ron Stonehouse
